Intercontinental Travel Committee

Every year Asset | FIRST International organizes an Intercontinental Travel of approximately two weeks, to one or two countries outside of Europe. The aim of this study tour is to explore business and the culture of an interesting country on a different continent. During this study tour we will visit several companies and cultural activities and of course have lots of fun!

What does the committee do?

The tasks of the Intercontinental Travel Committee consist of choosing a destination, arrange transportation, contacting companies, arrange cultural activities, arrange accommodation, looking for sponsoring, and of course promoting the travel.

When the committee is choosing a destination, a lot of factors should be kept in mind. The most important one is of course that it is payable and that depends mainly on the flights tickets and accommodation. However the city (or cities) itself should be interesting culturally and also enough businesses should be present.

When a destination is chosen, indications of ticket and accommodation prices are already present. Thus then it is time to book those things and start with contacting companies. Also cultural activities can be arranged and gradually a program of the week arises. Then it is time for promotion by means of lecture talks and posters and flyers. After that it is time to make a detailed script for every day and by then you will depart to your destination. During the stay you, together with the rest of the committee, will be responsible for the guidance of all students till you safely return in Tilburg. Last, after the trip, an evaluation of the activity and the organization will follow to come up with recommendations and tips for the future committees.

What does the committee learn?

Since there are different functions within this committee, different things will be learned during organizing the Intercontinental Travel. In general the committee develops its organization skills, they learn how to deal with stress and to be innovative when choosing a destination. The Public Relations Officers learn how to communicate with companies. The Chairman develops leading skills. The Treasurer learns how to make a budget. The workload of this committee is 8 hours a week.
